10 Years Ago at the Library...
The Library Line was published by the marketing staff of the Toledo Lucas County Public Library from 1993-2010. It highlighted information about the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library for the citizens of Lucas County. This issue, dated Winter 2009-2010, is the latest one we have in our possession at the Local History and Genealogy Department. Among the many events that the library was celebrating at this time was the re-opening of the Reynolds Corners Branch Library after a year’s closure for renovations. Reynolds Corners was the first public library in the state of Ohio to be recognized as a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) system-certified branch. A new teen center also was unveiled at Main Library, the Metro, which featured a glass-enclosed gaming area, new seating and tables, and a reorganized computer area. Other news included the ranking given to TLCPL by the Library Journal Index of Public Library Service: sixth in the nation in its category!
A celebration of Art Tatum’s musical legacy was reviewed, with special guest, noted pianist/vocalist Johnny O’Neill. Batman’s seventieth birthday was recognized with an event hosted by local comic book historian James Beard. Among the authors visiting during the Authors! Authors! season were Neil Gaiman and Charles Buckley. The Robert L. and Posy Huebner Children’s Illustration Collection celebrated its fifth anniversary with the unveiling of a rare Russell H. Tandy original cover illustration from the 1931 Nancy Drew mystery, The Secret at Shadow Ranch, as well as cover art created by artist and illustrator Bob Barner.
